GETTING A SPONSOR
I have been sponsored for 8 straight years by various great Powerlifting, Strength & Nutritional companies. I think it is an honor and a pleasure to have sponsors because the companies did not have to say yes. This is why I have a passion to promote my great sponsors. If you want to get sponsors, there are several things that you can do to be successful at it. Here are a few ideals and tips I have learned about getting a sponsor. Also, tips to do once you get your new sponsor too. 1. Create a bio/resume that list all your powerlifting accomplishment: *records *max *pictures *titles *goal *videos *competitions *ranking *awards *web site & email 2. Be visible on the internet training forums and keep several training journals too. 3. Have an active role in a Powerlifting organization. It?s really good if you have a position in a Powerlifting organization because you can promote your sponsors products. Example positions: judge, state chairman, meet director, committee member, etc. 4. Compete at the big meets because this shows you?re a good lifter and separates you from the rest of the lifters. Competing at a World Championship or a Pro meets or big national meets looks a lot better than competing a small or local meets. 5. Get your own web site and have emails too. Web sites are a great tool to promote your sponsor products. This is extremely important. Also, having an email account keeps you in touch with your sponsors and you can email your friends about your sponsors too. 6. Always help & uplift your fellow lifters because this shows that you are positive person to your new sponsor. Try to avoid negative comments or hating. 7. Have something about you that stands out more than the rest of the lifters. Remember, companies get sponsorship request all the time. So, you must have something about you that is unique. Example: ranking, nickname, record, etc. 8. Let the sponsor know how you can bring them more business. Also, how you will promote their company too. 9. Make a name for yourself in your own state. 10. Google your name & see what comes up. Also, google your state with powerlifting or bench press and see what comes up too. 11. Submit your bio/resume to as many companies as possible. I suggest start with the companies in PLUSA first because these companies support the Powerlifting & Strength Community. 12. Talk to other lifters that are sponsored. They might be able to help open the door to a new sponsor quicker for you. Now, once your get a new sponsor, here are a few tips to promote your sponsor: 1. Add pictures to your websites. It?s great to have pictures from your training session wearing your sponsors t-shirts. Also, add pictures of your sponsor products too. 2. Always wear your sponsor t-shirt, hat, sweats, etc as much as possible. Believe it or not, people are watching watch your wear. 3. Post your sponsor links & pictures on different training forums. This is great way to advertise your new sponsors. 4. If a lifter asks about a product on a training forum or in person, talk to him or her about your sponsor first! 5. Always thank you sponsor on different training forums for their great support. 6. Add training videos wearing your sponsor?s clothes to your web site. 7. Post your training videos and pictures onto different training forums. 8. Post-weekly bulletin & blogs about your sponsors. 9. Wear your sponsor clothes to meets. 10. Take pictures while wearing your sponsor?s clothes at your meet. 11. Always talk about your sponsors in interviews. 12. Use your real name on the training forums because a lifter can?t relate to a fake name. Also, you?ll have more accountability & credibility with a real name too. 13. Email your sponsors videos & pictures of yourself training & competing. 14. Your avatar picture should be your sponsor. Now, just for fun, you are doing a great job promoting your sponsors if (lol): 1. Someone always ask you about your sponsors or how to get sponsored. 2. A lifter mentions he is using your sponsor products because of you. 3. People post comments about they don?t believe that you are sponsored (lol). 4.
